Gary Allen has been a full time professional photographer for over 25 years. Based in Wilmington, NC, Gary travels across the state and region to provide his unique award-winning photography. During most of his career, Gary worked as a full-time newspaper photojournalist, including over 12 years at the Raleigh (NC) News & Observer. You can view samples of his photojournalism work. His photos have appeared in hundreds of magazines and newspapers including such notables as Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, Southern Living, and newspapers such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Chicago Tribune. Gary has photographed the 1996 Olympics, NCAA Final Fours, ACC basketball tournaments, Presidential visits and many other major news/sporting events over the last two decades. He has covered all types of assignments, from devastating hurricanes on the coast to swim lessons for babies. He's taken portraits of celebrities like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Jordan and of people you see everyday in your hometown. Since 1999, Gary has photographed over 400 weddings and treats each one as if it was the most important assignment in the world. And for you it is, Gary knows that and works tirelessly to record the days' events in an honest, candid approach. His photos are real moments of spirit and emotion that can only be captured by an experienced photojournalist.
